Waiting....

Still waiting to see how my entry into the World Wide Photo Walk measures up with the other entries... I really am not a patient person when it comes to stuff like that. Once a deadline has passed, I'm ready to see results, right now.

I have no idea what others' have submitted, we can't see them until a winner has been chosen. I'm sure there are going to be some awesome entries. I'm very happy I am not the one that has to choose just one, it's hard enough choosing which of mine to submit!

Sumbission...

I finally decided on which photo to submit for the Photo Walk contest... It was hard to decide, but the one I chose was one I just couldn't stop returning to. It drew me in from the moment I took it, and through every edit and narrowing of the choices, it just called to me.

I have the day yet to change the submitted photo, should I want to (it would shock me if I did)... I will show you the photo I chose next week. For now, enjoy the two that didn't get chosen in the final cut!

World Wide Photo Walk 2012

This year I signed up for the Lansing, MI photo walk in order to spend the afternoon with my son, currently away at MSU and also an avid photographer.

The day was cold and rainy, and I debated on calling first to see if he still wanted to go or not, and ended by deciding that even if we didn't do the photo walk, we could at least have dinner together and visit. When I got to his dorm to pick him up, we decided to go ahead and do the walk. I'm glad we did! We had a great time together in the rain and met several other wonderful people who also braved the rain.

While the weather might not have been perfect, all the company was! Here are a few of my favorite shots from the day...

Chandelier (I really want a smaller version of this!)

ArtPrize

ArtPrize is an annual art competition in Grand Rapids, MI, which is now in it's 3rd year (I believe). I love going downtown to see all the art, it's a massive event and I have yet to come close to seeing even half of the art on display!

There's all kinds of things, from miniatures to massive displays, some is fleeting (such as the balloon launch at night this year), others more permanent. Statues, paintings, sculpture, kinetic, paper, glass, metal, fabric, fiber, sand, sound, and light are all represented... It's sensory overload almost!

My boys and I went downtown to experience a portion of the event, here are a couple of our favorites from our afternoon:
Pine Needle Grizzly. That's right, his fur is made up of pine needles! He stands around 6' tall.

"Return to Eden" made it to the top 10, it's an 8' tall stained glass mosaic and is on the rear exterior wall of the public museum during ArtPrize.

Part of the Penguin "Come Together" installation in the fountains in front of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. Fans of The Beetles should recognize the title connection to an album cover.

I don't recall the name of this one, I think it was "Sea Glass" it's all fused glass in shallow bowl forms, mounted to a wall. This is just a small section of the installation.

One of the band members of "Heavy Metal Band" He reminds me of Slash. The band was complete with adoring fans in the audience. Very cool installation in The B.O.B.'s parking lot.
