For me, spring means that classes are almost done, and I can dedicate more time to my photography. It's one of my favorite times of year, with everything starting fresh and going from grey, brown and bare to green and and full of life. The spring flowers bring the beauty and promise of summer, refreshing my mind as much as the new leaves refreshes the trees.
In spring I see promise for the coming year, a year full of beauty and hope, new beginnings and the promise of a bright future. As you can probably tell, I am an optimist. I've been accused of being an "eternal optimist," which apparently means I always look for the bright side of anything. I love that, I see that as a strength, and I think it's great for my photography. Other people may see gray skies, I see even light with no harsh shadows, perfect for fall color pictures or outdoor portraits... Bright sun offers creative shadows, and rain lends a calmness and interest to standard flower or macro shots, and a brightly colored umbrella against a grey rainy day offers an interesting aspect to a portrait session.
So, welcome spring. Enjoy the opportunities and challenges of the year, and take a minute to look at things in a new way.
